Your Art Therapy Questions, Answered
-
Art therapy integrates the creative process of art-making with psychological theory to address and support emotional healing, self-awareness, and psychological wellbeing.
Rooted in both psychology and the arts, art therapy uses image-making and other expressive processes as a way to access experiences that may be difficult to articulate through words alone.
The focus is not on creating something perfect, but on using creativity as a way to explore feelings, build insight, and reconnect with yourself in a meaningful, embodied way.
No prior art experience is required.
Art therapy sessions can be especially supportive for individuals seeking trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, self-exploration, and deeper mind–body awareness.
-
Art therapy sessions are tailored around your needs, goals, and comfort level.
Depending on the session, you may be invited to:
Participate in the art-making process using various art materials
Listen to music and creatively respond to sensory or emotional stimuli
Engage in mindfulness practices, breathwork, or guided meditation
Explore other expressive modalities such as movement, imagery, or symbolic reflection
You always have a choice in how you engage. Some sessions may feel more reflective and conversational, while others may be more experiential. Time is set aside to gently reflect on the process and connect creative expression to your lived experience, emotional patterns, and personal growth.

Art therapy groups are priced differently than individual sessions and reflect the time, materials, and facilitation involved.
Group pricing is structured one of two ways, depending on the size and format of the group:
Per-person rates for larger, open, or ongoing groups and are set at a lower cost per person than individual therapy.
Flat rates are offered for smaller or closed groups.
All group pricing is shared clearly in advance. When appropriate, limited sliding-scale options may be available.
