From Artist to Art Therapist
What began as a simple interest in art, exploring different materials as a child does, became an invaluable tool for healing and growth. Making art was a gateway to escape everyday life and its seemingly never-ending torments and mysteries. It wasn’t just creating, it was evolving. It was becoming, connecting, thriving. Through art, I learned valuable lessons about navigating life, gained new ways to connect with others and the world around me, and found a greater sense of self-love and acceptance.
I knew early on that this discovery was something special, something worth sharing with others. Art heals, and I needed to not only develop my skills as an artist to understand how that is, but also find a way to share its power with the world.
My name is Heather, and I’m a mixed media artist, creative arts therapist, and creativity specialist living in Upstate New York and Long Island.
I earned my Bachelor’s of Art in Studio Art and Creative Writing from SUNY Potsdam, and my Master’s of Art in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling from Hofstra University.
Combining my love for art and healing, I emphasize the significance of materials, color, line, and shape, and invite my clients to use creative expression as its own kind of language.
“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.”
— Georgia O'Keefe
A transpersonal perspective gently makes room for the deeper parts of being human—things like identity, purpose, connection, and, if it resonates with you, spirituality. This doesn’t have to be religious; it’s simply about honoring whatever gives your life meaning.
Mindfulness-based practices help you slow down, become more aware of your thoughts and feelings, and learn how to respond to them with greater compassion rather than judgment.
My practice is rooted in transpersonal and humanistic approaches, along with mindfulness-based techniques, to support whole-being healing. This means I see you as more than just a set of symptoms or problems to fix. I believe you are a whole person—with thoughts, emotions, a body, a spirit.
A humanistic approach means I meet you with empathy, respect, and genuine curiosity about your experience. You are the expert on your life, and together we create a space where you can explore, grow, and reconnect with your sense of self.
